Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Sound Suite software, or by accessing the soundsuite.ai website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the software or website.

If you are using Sound Suite on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

2. The Software

Sound Suite is a local-first, self-hosted document intelligence platform designed for legal case management. The software monitors directories for court PDFs, processes them through a hybrid OCR/vector pipeline, exposes data via Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI consumption, and provides a web-based dashboard — all running entirely on your own hardware.

Sound Suite is source-available software licensed under the Polyform Noncommercial License 1.0.0, with a separate commercial license available for professional use. The full license text and details are available on the License page.

3. License Types

Sound Suite is available under three license tiers:

Personal License (Free)

Under the Polyform Noncommercial License 1.0.0, Sound Suite is free for all noncommercial use, including:

✓ Pro se litigants — individuals representing themselves in their own legal matters
✓ Law students — case study, moot court, clinic work, and academic coursework
✓ Academic researchers — universities, legal scholarship, and non-profit research
✓ Personal use — any noncommercial purpose

Commercial License

Required for any use in connection with providing legal services to others, including law firms, solo practitioners, paralegals, and legal services organizations.

Main instance $5,000 one-time

Each GPU sidecar $1,000 one-time

Enterprise License

For multi-instance deployments, volume sidecar pricing, custom MCP tools, SLA guarantees, and dedicated support. Contact us for details.

4. Permitted Use

Subject to the applicable license type, you may:

Install and run the software on your own hardware
Process documents using the OCR, embedding, and vector search pipeline
Use MCP tools to integrate with AI assistants of your choice
Modify the source code for your own use, subject to the Polyform NC license terms
Create backups of the software and your data
Report bugs and contribute to the project on GitHub

5. Restrictions

Regardless of license type, you may not:

Sublicense the software or transfer your license to another party
Resell the software, offer it as a hosted service, or bundle it in a commercial product
Remove or alter license notices, copyright headers, or attribution statements
Misrepresent the origin of the software or claim it as your own work
Use the software commercially without a valid commercial license

6. Intellectual Property

Sound Suite and all associated intellectual property — including source code, documentation, trademarks, and the soundsuite.ai website — are owned by Sound Suite contributors. The Polyform Noncommercial License 1.0.0 grants you specific rights to use the software; it does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property.

Your documents, data, and any output generated by the software on your machine remain your property. Sound Suite does not claim any rights to your content.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

Sound Suite is a document processing tool, not a legal advisor. The software does not provide legal advice, legal opinions, or legal recommendations. Any analysis, search results, or AI-generated content produced by the software should be independently verified by a qualified legal professional.

We do not guarantee that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular legal use case. OCR accuracy, embedding quality, and search relevance may vary depending on document quality and configuration.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SOUND SUITE CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SOFTWARE.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF SOUND SUITE CONTRIBUTORS EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE LICENSE, OR ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100) IF YOU ARE USING THE FREE LICENSE.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Sound Suite contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in connection with your use of the software, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

10. Termination

Your rights under these terms will terminate automatically if you fail to comply with any of them. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the software and destroy any copies in your possession.

For the Polyform Noncommercial License, the first-time violation cure period described in the license text applies: you have 32 days from written notice to come into compliance before your license terminates.

Commercial licenses may be terminated by either party with 30 days' written notice. Termination of a commercial license does not entitle you to a refund, as commercial licenses are perpetual one-time purchases.

11. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any legal action or proceeding arising under these terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
